Welcome to this course on ‘Chemicals Management section of the Higg FEM V4.0’. This course is designed to provide an overview of best practices to set up a Chemical Management System at the facility. 

 

The courses under this training are designed to provide an overview of best practices to set up a Chemical Management System at the facility. It also highlights the general practices and criteria listed in the Higg FEM to achieve level 1 status in Chemical Management Section. 

 

After completing this training, participants will learn the importance of chemicals management in order to reduce risks associated with hazardous chemicals. The course provides details on requirements to establish a chemical inventory and an effective chemical procurement program. Participants will also gain insights about the importance of obtaining the appropriate chemical information (i.e., SDS) and how it relates to compliance with legal and other requirements (i.e., MRSL, RSL). Participants will also gain awareness of how good environmental and occupational health and safety practices for storage, handling and use of chemicals can help to reduce exposure risks.

 

In order to effectively cover the Higg FEM Chemical Management section (Level 1), the training is divided into 5 E-Learning courses - 

  • Introduction to Chemical Management (Q1 – Q5)
  • Understanding Safety Data Sheets (Q6)
  • Health and Safety (Q7 – Q10)
  • Understanding MRSLs and RSLs (Q11 - Q12)
  • EHS, Chemical Storage and Training (Q13 – Q18)

 

The Training program is run entirely online in the form of an audio-visual learning. You will be able to take the training at your convenient time. The Technical Content in the Training is interspersed with Activities, Knowledge Checks, and downloadable Resource Materials.

 

You will be given access to the training course for 6 Months from the moment you launch the course.

The duration of each course is 60-75 minutes.

Course 1:  Introduction to Chemical Management (Q1-5)

  • Development and implementation of an effective Chemical Management Policy
  • How to create a Chemical Inventory List
  • Information needed to be reviewed/considered when making chemical purchasing decisions 
  • Effective chemical purchasing practice 

 

Course 2:  Understanding Safety Data Sheets (Q6)

  • The importance of Safety Data Sheets
  • Overview of GHS and its Hazard Classification
  • Sections of SDS
  • SDS Considerations

 

Course 3:  Health and Safety (Q7-10)

  • Health and Safety measures
  • Employee training chemicals handling
  • Developing Emergency Response Plans 
  • Safety equipment and Hazard Signages for handling chemicals

 

Course 4: Understanding MRSLs and RSLs (Q11-12)

  • Process to evaluate chemical hazards on RSL conformance
  • Understanding ZDHC MRSL requirements
  • Ensuring compliance to MRSL and RSL
  • Communication of MRSL and RSL requirements

 

Course 5: EHS, Chemical Storage and Training (Q13-18)

  • Health and Safety measures
  • Procedures to manage and control environmental, health and safety risks
  • Proper Chemical Storage
  • Employee Training on MRSL and RSL 
  • Investigation and resolution of failures
